2) Pre-Poo Hair
Pre-Poo hair before shampooing is beneficial as it will help to make hair manageable , soft, and retain moisturize lost through shampooing. It helps to protect your hair’s natural oils from further stripping, strengthens, and decrease the risk of hair breakage. You can pre-poo your hair with penetrating oils, such as coconut oils, olive oils, almond oils, castor oil, and avocado oils. The oils treatment you can keep in for 30 minutes to the next day. Just make sure your cover hair completely to avoid oil on pillow case.
3) Drinking Water, Exercise, and Have a Healthy Diet
Incorporating these three will not only help to nourish inside your body but will help your hair. Drinking water, exercising, and eating lean meats, nuts, fresh fruits and leafy dark greens will serve your overall health justice. During exercises blood is pumping much faster which increase circulation and brings nutrients throughout the body. Your body is excreting toxins from your sweat glands out the pores of your skin. Blood is pumping faster and much quickly as it makes it up to your head. This in return will mostly likely assist with hair growth. Just make sure your practicing healthy hair care habits as well.
4) Be Gentle to Detangle Hair
Be gentle when detangling hair. Avoid combing hair in a haste as you will further cause breakage. Apply conditioner to hair and finger detangle or use a wide tooth comb. Start at ends and work your way slowly up the roots. Feel for knots or hair balls to trim when necessary to avoid unnecessary ripping of hair. I found it is much easier to detangle in the shower while the water is running, this helps to detangle and less breakage occurs. Just know your hair type and what detangling procedure works for you. You do not have to detangle in the shower. You can still detangle outside the shower. For some, detangling in the shower brings a smoother consistency as the water helps to loosen the curls.
5) Select Products Best For Your Hair
Select products that are best for your natural hair. You do not need a lot of hair products to moisturize or style your hair. No need to become a “product junkie.” There are tons of products out there making the selection confusing. Start slow and experiment. No need to buy all expensive products, be wise in your spending. My hair, I use whipped shae/mango butter, I use castor oil, and Design Essentials Natural Hair Mousse as my styles to achieve twist-outs. Have a balance between co-washing and clarifying hair. Co-washing only does not deeply cleanse hair from excess product build-up. Depending on the condition of your hair, have a balance with no sulfates to sulfates shampoo. Have a balance with deep conditioning to protein treatment when needed. You can deep condition weekly to bi-weekly. Protein treatment helps to strengthen the structure of your hair due to weakened protein bonds. Depending on the kind of protein treatment and its instructions, you can do a protein treatment every 3 weeks, 6 weeks, or 8 weeks.
6) Trim Your Ends
Trim your ends is part of the healthy hair care. How often you trim your hair depends on its condition, such as single strand knot, balls on the hair, frayed, or possible see through. Some naturals may trim every two months or three months in areas needed. To avoid less trimming keep hair from heat damage and keep hair re-twisted or re-braided in sections to lessen tangles before bed time.
7) Keep Hair Hydrated and Moisturized
Keep hair hydrated and moisturize often. Natural hair has the tendency to become dry quickly. Hydrate with water or a mixed-water based solution, apply your favorite hair oil (not grease you guys), followed by hair cream/butter, or non-alcohol foam/mousse. No cotton, as this will absorb hair’s moisture gradually. No worries if you have an episode to sleep on cotton pillow. Just minimize the habit and practice better hair care.

No matter what your hair type, love your hair or grow to learn better ways to care for it. Its unique and its part of you. You are beautiful the way you are. No one can care your hair like you.
