What Are Your Hair Goals?

If you have a goal of having healthy natural hair, it’s apparent that among the other benefits that having healthy hair will result to having healthy growing hair. Having healthy hair is having the ability to grow your hair to the optimum length you desire. If you are doing what it takes to have healthy hair, you will certainly be doing what it takes to have long hair. I think it’s wonderful to say that having healthy growing hair is the ultimate goal for the majority.

I’m going to share with you six steps you should take when starting a new healthy hair journey unless you have a medical or health condition that affects your hair. If acted upon, these six steps will help you reach your healthy hair goal.

1. Do your Research

Your first approach should be is educating yourself about your hair. This will equip you as you gain inspiration. Do not overwhelm yourself by trying to learn everything all at once. There is so much information out there concerning natural hair. Some of which are confusing. Overwhelming yourself with vast amount of information can cause anxiety that can cause you to do too much to your hair, such as an over manipulating, becoming a product junkie, or over moisturizing leading hair to become weak and break. . This plays a role in the hair’s porosity of how it retains the moisture it needs.

Everyone’s hair and texture are unique. There are a few things you may be practicing right now without knowing the potential harm. This overdoing approach can substantially slow down your progress. Practicing patience with your hair, making real efforts, taking care of your hair, and educating yourself. Your hair will flourish. The most challenging part is making sure you retain length.

2. Have a simple Regimen

Begin a regimen that works best for you. To understand your hair you will go through experiencing trials and failures. It is not called a natural hair journey for nothing. As you learn your will slowly discover what works and does not work for your hair. As you get better you can then start to add more complex and targeted steps and products to your regimen. The most important principles to a hair regimen are to determine how often to handle, protect, cleanse, moisturize, and treat your hair.

3. Select Products thats best for you

Products– For most naturals, this can feel overwhelming. Our hair is unique to us. What may work for another, may not work for you. Finding the right products on the first try may not happen. When you’re dealing with your natural hair this process is based on trial and error. Maybe you need to change to a moisturizing shampoo or conditioner that provides more slip to ease with the detangling. Or maybe after you condition your hair there’s no noticeable change and you may want to add natural agents, such as castor oil to maximize it effects. When you reach this point, you will have an idea of what is working and what is not working. If for some reason you cannot figure it out, rather than tossing everything all at once, make a change or customize one product at a time so you can probably identify was causing the setback. Remember this is not called a natural hair journey for nothing.

4. Healthy Life Style

Unless you have a medical condition, having a healthy lifestyle, by staying active makes an impact on your hair. Drinking plenty of water, eating vegetables, leafy greens, lean protein, and taking multivitamins can boost in your overall health. Having less stress helps as well.

5. Know your Hair Type and porosity

Knowing your hair type and porosity will better assist you on how well your hair retains moisture. This will let you know if you need a protein treatment or a hot oil treatment. Also, you will learn if LOC or LCO method or both works best for you when it comes to sealing in water/moisture longer in your hair.

6. Love your Hair

Love your hair it is part of you. As you learn to accept your hair the way it is. This will make the trials and errors seem not to be a complete failure. You will personally discover what does not work for you. Comparing your hair to someone who has similar is not a bad idea. It can become motivating. However, issues arise when comparing your hair type to someone similar to yours is when you make unrealistic expectations and use comparisons to put yourself down. This is a big No, No. This will cause you to have anxiety, depression, desperation, and probably make you give up altogether.

Having a clear and objective mindset is very important for any new task to take on in life. Understand that you will have setbacks. We all do in life. However, when encountering setbacks seek guidance from those that have similarly experienced of your hair types. Surround yourself with positive and factual knowledge to help you along in your journey.
