Viola Davis natural hair is beautiful. She looked fantastic from head to toe. Great Afro and it looks well on you.

“The best personal style statements are the ones that let your true self shine—and no one understands that better than Viola Davis. Stepping onto the red carpet at the 2018 Golden Globes this evening, Davis showcased a crown of natural curls and coils that was radiant. Rocking her natural hair in a voluminous Afro, she debuted a fresh look while projecting the supernatural poise she’s become known for. Longer, larger, and more eye-catching than ever, Davis’s hair was among the evening’s beauty standouts.

Since debuting a cropped Afro at the 2012 Oscars, Davis has been vocal about the way in which embracing her given texture empowered her both on-screen and off. After years of relying on wigs and extensions to conceal the stress-induced alopecia she had suffered from in her late 20s, Davis’s switch to natural hair wasn’t about style as much as regaining confidence and, as she tells it, part of an ongoing journey of self-acceptance. “I had a wig that I wore when I worked out. I never showed my natural hair. It was a crutch, not an enhancement,” Davis told Vulture. “I was so desperate for people to think that I was beautiful. I had to be liberated from that to a certain extent.”

Helping to kick-start a conversation about the beauty ideals imposed upon African-American women and incorporating the idea into a now-famous moment on How to Get Away With Murder, in which she strips off her character’s wig on-screen, Davis’s decision has had a ripple effect that extends beyond a mere red carpet moment. Hair remains a politicized issue, one that continues to make many feel as though they must conform. The continued presence and visibility of stars like Davis wearing their hair in its natural texture at the most globally visible events imaginable doesn’t just look great, it also has the power to topple those notions once and for all.”
